Arts and Culture
Boone NC is a culturally vibrant city. The diversity and influence of Appalachian State University combined with the Appalachian Heritage that has been exceptionally preserved through shows like Horn in the West makes Boone North Carolina a cultural destination. Boone is filled with galleries, museums, concert venues and so much more!

Summer is the most popular time in the High Country mountains for entertainment as Appalachian State University’s Appalachian Summer Festival kicks into full swing. This summer long event lasts through the months of June and July and brings famous artists in the realms of music, dance, and theatre to the High Country Mountains. All of the Appalachian State University Summer Festival Events are popular events; in fact, last year the Appalachian Summer Festival in Boone brought more than 25,000 fans to its events! For tickets to the Appalachian Summer Festival in Boone NC, an event named one of the “Top 20 Events in the Southeast” by the Southeast Tourism Society, contact the Appalachian State University Office of Arts and Cultural Programs. The schedule of events for the upcoming Boone NC Appalachian Summer Festival is always announced several months in advance.

Also running in the summer is the legendary “Horn in the West” outdoor drama that many have come to love and appreciate. Since 1952, visitors have enjoyed the “Horn in the West” show at the outdoor amphitheatre located adjacent to the Daniel Boone Native Gardens and park. This great show is always a fun event to check out, and always a hit for the whole family. In addition to the show, visitors can tour the Hickory Ridge Homestead, Boone’s “living history museum” that offers a glimpse of what life was like for the early settlers in the mountains.

If local art is more your thing, head over to the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts, in downtown Boone. Filled with unique works from local artists as well as touring exhibits, Boone’s Turchin Center is a place you must check out! If you are heading to the mountains for the weekend, enjoy the 1st Friday night in Boone by browsing tons of affordable local art at the downtown Boone Art Crawl event. Local restaurants and galleries open their doors to welcome art lovers who have come to mingle and enjoy the art and live entertainment. Yet another popular art event in the summer is Blowing Rock’s Art in the Park events which take place each month, weather permitting, in the downtown Blowing Rock NC park.
