Just south of Boone are two public courses.
Boone Golf Club is situated on US Hwy 321 in the
Watauga Valley. The course was designed by Ellis
Maples to take advantage of the mountain scenery
and showcase the exquisite High Country
greenery. Willow Creek Golf Club, located off US
Hwy 105, is an executive length, 9-hole course.
With three sets of tee boxes, Willow Creek is a
fun and versatile course for all golf abilities.
 Banner Elk’s Elk River Club and Diamond Creek
courses are among the premier courses in the
Southeast. Elk River, designed by Jack Nicklaus,
and Diamond Creek, designed by Tom Fazio, are
private clubs with membership by invitation
only. At the base of
Grandfather Mountain lies
Grandfather Golf and Country Club. This private,
member-owned and controlled club has two 18-hole
golf courses designed by Ellis Maples. The
Club’s championship course is known as one of
the finest and highest ranked courses in the
Carolinas.

course, head over to The Village of Sugar
Mountain Golf Course. Located between Boone and
Banner Elk
at the base of a very popular
NC Ski Resort, Sugar Mountain Golf Course is
described as “Everyman’s Golf Course.” Frank
Duane designed the 18 holes with 9-par threes,
8-par fours and a single par five. The 4,000
foot elevation, beautiful greenery and surfaces
and crystal streams make Sugar Mountain Golf
